Whether we can reach our worldly future or not is something nobody knows, but we will certainly enter the grave with our deeds; every Muslims knows this. Right from now, we must, must, must begin thinking about our good deeds.

Once, ꜤUthmān b. Abū ꜤĀṣ رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ went to the graveyard with a funeral procession, alongside a young man displaying slight signs of heedlessness. ꜤUthmān b. Abū ꜤĀṣ pointed towards the grave that had been prepared for the deceased and said to the young man, “Look at your home closely.” When the young man looked inside the grave, ꜤUthmān b. Abū ꜤĀṣ asked, “What do you see?”

He replied, “A dark and small place, with no food, water and family. My home in the world has all these things.”

ꜤUthmān b. Abū ꜤĀṣ رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ then declared, “You have spoken the truth. By Allah! Even if you go back to your worldly home today, you will end up in this dark and constricted home one day (it is better for you to prepare for it now).”[1]

Live in the world like a traveller

O those who love Allah’s Messenger! Do not fall into the mistake of thinking because you are young, you have lots of life left, as death will only come when you are old. This is only a deception; a hopeful dream which might not come to pass.

The wise person is he who is always prepared for death. ꜤAbdullāh b. ꜤUmar رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهُمَا states, “The Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم once held me ˹by the shoulder˺ and announced, ‘O ꜤAbdullāh b. ꜤUmar! Live in this world as
