Hearing this, the man repented.[1]

 سُـبْحٰـنَ الـلّٰــه This is the miraculous effect of the Quran, the Book of guidance. Whoever is fortunate enough to read it, and tries to understand it with a sincere heart; the doors of guidance open for them.

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                     صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Varying effects of the Quran

The Quran is the word of Allah, and it does not have just one effect, but many. It has several names, and each reflects the Quran’s varying forms of impact upon the human heart.

The Quran is called ḥikmah (Wisdom) – because reading it brings one wisdom and understanding. The Quran is called Ṣirāṭ al-Mustaqīm (The Straight Path) – as it guides those who are lost to the right way. The Quran is called Nūr (Light) – as it spreads light and illuminates the hearts.

The House Shone Like a Lamp

One of the Prophet’s Companions was Thābit b. Qays رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ. At night, his house would glow brightly, as if a lamp was lit inside. (We must remember that in those days, there was no electricity and nights were completely dark. Yet, the house of Thābit b. Qays would shine in the darkness.)

When people mentioned this to the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, he said, "Thābit b. Qays must recite Surah al-Baqarah at night." Thābit bin Qays was asked about this, to which he said, “Yes! I do recite Surah al-Baqarah at night!”

سُـبْحٰـنَ الـلّٰــه This shows that the Quran is full of light. Reciting it illuminates
