Book Name:Farooq e Azam Ke Ala Ausaf

Quran with great passion. On many occasions, whilst reciting the noble Quran, his state would change, and he would begin weeping out of fear of Allah Almighty.

Sayyiduna ꜤAbdullah b. Shaddād رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ states:

ꜤUmar رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was once leading Fajr salah. He started reciting Sūrah Yūsuf. He continued reciting until he reached verse 84 of the chapter, in which Allah Almighty states:

وَ ابْیَضَّتْ عَیْنٰہُ مِنَ الْحُزْنِ فَہُوَ کَظِیْمٌ (۸۴)

“And his eyes became white from grief, so he suppressed his sorrow.”[1]

When ꜤUmar رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ recited this verse, he began to weep, and he continued weeping for some time until he finally bowed for rukūꜤ.[2]

Breathlessness due to crying so much

Similarly, Sayyidunā Ḥasan رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ narrates that the Leader of the believers, Sayyidunā ꜤUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ, once recited verses 7 and 8 of Sūrah al-Ṭūr:

اِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّکَ  لَوَاقِعٌ ۙ(۷)مَّا لَہٗ  مِنْ  دَافِعٍ ۙ(۸)

The punishment of your Lord will certainly come to pass. None can avert it.[3]
