(5) His abundant dhikr of Allah Almighty

Dear Islamic brothers, another praiseworthy attribute of Sayyidunā ꜤUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was his abundant remembrance of Allah Almighty. Imam JaꜤfar al-Ṣādiq رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ states:

کَانَ اَکْثَرُ کَلَامِ عُمَرَ اللہُ اَکْبَر

“Saying ‘اللہُ اَکْبَر’ often was part of ꜤUmar’s speech.”[1]

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                     صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

(6) Words inspiring divine fear

Sayyidunā ꜤUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ feared Allah Almighty. Due to this, he used to shed tears, avoid sins, do good deeds, fulfil the rights of people, and reflect over his actions. Another distinctive practice of his was to listen to things that would increase his fear of Allah Almighty.

On one such occasion, he requested Sayyidunā KaꜤb al-Aḥbār رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ to mention things to him that would increase him in his fear of Allah Almighty.

Sayyidunā KaꜤb رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ responded by saying that even if you were to come on the Day of Judgement with deeds equal to that of 70 Prophets, you would still deem your deeds to be insignificant after witnessing the Day of Judgement. Upon hearing this, Sayyidunā ꜤUmar رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ lowered his head, thinking about the Hereafter. After some time, he requested Sayyiduna KaꜤb رَضِىَ اللهُ عَـنْهُ to say more. So, Sayyidunā KaꜤb رَضِىَ اللهُ عَـنْهُ informed him that Hell is so terrifying that if an area of it equal to the nose of a bull was to be exposed in the east, the brain of a person in the west
