when there is no opportunity to be patient, one will be deprived of this great reward of enduring patiently.

Develop a desire for good deeds

It is mentioned in a Hadith that the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said:

اِحْرِصْ عَلیٰ مَا یَنْفَعُکَ وَاسْتَعِنْ بِاللہِ وَ لَاتَعْجِزْ

“Be desirous of that which benefits you, seek Allah’s help, and do not feel helpless.” [1]

Muftī Aḥmad Yār Khān NaꜤīmī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه writes in the commentary of this Hadith:

Whatever brings you a religious benefit, do not suffice with a small amount [of it], rather display keenness for it! Strive to attain it, but do not rely on your efforts, place your reliance in Allah Almighty (seeking His aid). It should be kept in mind that when it comes to worldly things, being content and patient is good, but showing intense desire and eagerness is preferred in matters pertaining to the Hereafter. Whenever you reach a certain position in religious affairs, do not be content with it, rather strive to advance further. Allah Almighty states:

فَاسْتَبِقُوا الْخَیْرٰتِ ؕ

So, excel in acts of piety.[2]

May Allah Almighty allow us to be desirous for good deeds, to avoid sins and to always think about the Hereafter.

اٰمِیْنْ بِجَاہِ خاتَمِ النَّبِیّٖن صلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْہ ِوَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ
