Etiquettes of Trade

Dear Islamic brothers! In order to become a successful trader, it is incumbent to know the principles and etiquettes of trade. Majority of them are etiquettes, which are mandatory by shariꜤah for every trader to follow. Here are some etiquettes taken from Siraat-ul-Jinan, volume 2, page 184. This will ensure we do not oppose Islamic laws and be deprived of the blessings of Allah.

1.   A trader should start the day by making good intentions. For example, I am going to the market to earn halal sustenance in order to support my family. This will allow my family to be independent of people, give me time to worship Allah, and be on the path of the Hereafter. He should also make an intention that he will address people with compassion, as well as being sincere and trustworthy. He will invite towards goodness, abstain from evil and question the one who is dishonest.

2.   A trader should learn how to distinguish between real and fake money. He should not accept fake money nor should he give it to someone else. Suppressing the rights of Muslims must be avoided.

3.   If someone gives counterfeit money (and you are unaware of the person who gave it you), then you should not give the money to anyone else. (If you know who the person is, you should not return the counterfeit money to him either [after recovering your due amount from him]). Rather, you should tear it so no one else becomes a victim of deceit.

4.   Do not excessively praise a product as it could fall under lying and deceit. If a customer is aware of the products traits from beforehand, it is unnecessary to describe the product again.
