The Importance of Earning Halal

Dear Islamic brothers! Remember! Earning for your family through permissible means is a human need. The Quran draws our attention towards earning halal livelihood at many places. In fact, Allah Almighty has referred to it as His grace, and has commanded and encouraged us to search for it. It is stated in the Quran:

وَّ  جَعَلۡنَا النَّہَارَ  مَعَاشًا (۱۱)

And (We) made the day for seeking livelihood.[1]

The Quran also states:

فَانۡتَشِرُوۡا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ وَ ابۡتَغُوۡا مِنۡ فَضۡلِ اللّٰہِ

So disperse in the land and seek Allah's benevolence (i.e. lawful sustenance).[2]

The Excellence of Seeking Livelihood

Sayyiduna KaꜤb bin ꜤUjrah رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ reports that one day, the Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was with his noble companions عَـلَيْهِمُ الرِّضْوَانْ when a young man walked past. The noble companions عَـلَيْهِمُ الرِّضْوَانْ saw the strong, young man and said, “If only his youth and strength were spent in the way of Allah.” Upon hearing this, the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said:

1.   If this man has left his home in search of sustenance for his young children, then this is in the way of Allah.

2.   If this man has left his home in search of sustenance for his old parents, then this is in the way of Allah.
