which we will either go to Heaven or Hell.” After saying this, he shouted in fear and fell unconscious.[1]
* A servant of Sayyiduna ‘Umar b. ‘Abd al-‘Azīz رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states: I would remain in his service at night. He would spend the nights crying in fear of Allah, but one night he cried more than usual. In the morning, I asked, “May my parents be sacrificed for you! Last night I heard you cry like never before.” He replied, “I thought about how I will stand before my Lord.” Upon saying this, he fell unconscious for a long time. I never saw him smile after that.[2]
Dear Islamic brothers! This is certainty of the Hereafter; such a firm belief that leaves no possibility of doubt, so that contemplation of the Hereafter overwhelms the heart and mind. Such certainty is sought after and is a quality of the pious. If we are granted this quality, our worldly worries will vanish. Our character will improve, our mannerism will improve, we will perform good actions, avoid sins, and become true Muslims.
Some causes of becoming heedless of the Hereafter
Unfortunately, love for the world, greed for wealth, preoccupation in trivial things, desire of status, habitual sinning, and long-winded aspirations make us heedless of the Hereafter. Veils of heedlessness cover our hearts. We never spend a moment to prepare for the Hereafter, because we are only worried about improving our condition in this world. We know death will come to us, but we do nothing to prepare for it. We know we will enter a dark grave, but we are not concerned about how we will spend our time in it.
