Book Name:Fikar Akhirat Karni Hai Zaroor
One day, ‘Umar b. ‘Abd al-‘Azīz رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه and Caliph Sulaymān b. ‘Abd al-Malik travelled together. (During that time, people travelled on camels and horses, and servants travelled to the destination beforehand to set up tents and organise luggage.)
The Caliph and several others had sent their belongings and tents ahead, but ‘Umar b. ‘Abd al-‘Azīz had not. When they reached their destination, everyone went into their tents, but nobody could find ‘Umar b. ‘Abd al-‘Azīz.
The Caliph told his servants to search for him, and they found him sitting beneath a tree, crying intensely. When the Caliph became aware of this, he called him and asked, “Why are you crying?” ‘Umar b. ‘Abd al-‘Azīz answered:
I was thinking about the Day of Judgement. Look! (You had your tents set up in advance and entered them as soon as we got here, but) I made no preparations, so there is nothing here for me. The Day of Judgement will be like this; whoever sent forth something will receive it.[1]
صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
What will happen to me on the Day of Judgement?
O those who love Allah’s Messenger! Indeed, this is reality. The world is a temporary abode and a place to prepare for the Hereafter. Whatever we sow here, we will reap there. Soon, the angel of death, Sayyidunā ‘Izrāʾīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام will come to take our souls, and we can do nothing to stop this.
