*   It is impermissible to bury more than one person in a grave. However, if there is a need, it is permissible.[1]

*   It is liked for the deceased body to be set down at the side of the grave facing qibla, so that the deceased is lowered into the grave from the qibla direction. It should not be set down at the feet side of the grave, such that the deceased is lowered into the grave head first from the feet side.[2]

*   As per the situation, two or three strong and pious individuals should lower the deceased into the grave. If the deceased is a woman, her close family should lower her in. If she has none, her distant relatives should do it, and if she has no family, then a group of righteous people can lower her in.[3]

*   A deceased woman should be covered with cloth from the time of lowering her body into the grave until slabs have been placed over her.

*   Recite the following du’āʾ when the deceased is lowered into the grave: بِسْمِ اللہِ وَبِاللہِ وَعَلٰی مِلَّۃِ رَسُوْلِ اللہ.[4]

*   The deceased should be made to lie on his right side with his face facing the qibla. The shroud is then untied, but there is no harm if it is not.[5]

*   Recite the following du’āʾ when the knot of the shroud is untied: اَللّٰہُمَّ لَا تَحْرِمْنَا اَجْرَہٗ وَلَا تَفْتِنَّا بَعْدَہٗ - “O Allah! Do not deprive us of his
