Book Name:Faizan e Imam Hasan Basri رَحمۃُ اللہِ عَلَیْہ
The saint who travelled from Basra to Mina everyday
Shaykh Farīd al-Dīn ꜤAṭṭār رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه writes in his book Tadhkirat al-Awliyāˈ:
There was a ḥāfiẓ and qārī who would teach Quran in a madrassa. Once, he was overcome by his nafs and Satan, and looked at something impermissible. As soon as he committed this mistake, he forgot the entire Quran.
He repented profusely and went to the renowned tābiꜤī saint, Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه. He cried as he mentioned what had occurred and requested the saint to pray for him, so he may remember the Quran again.
Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه helped the remorseful ḥāfiẓ by saying, “Perform hajj this year and go to Masjid al-Khayf in Mina! Ask the imam there to pray for you.”
The ḥāfiẓ set off for hajj and arrived at Masjid al-Khayf in Mina just before Ẓuhr time. An elderly imam with a glowing face was sitting in the masjid, with people gathered around him. After a short while, an honourable person came. The elderly imam and all those present stood up to welcome him. The person then sat with everyone else.
Some time later, azan took place, ẓuhr salah was offered in congregation, and people began returning home. The imam of Masjid al-Khayf was now alone, so when the opportunity arose, the former ḥāfiẓ went to him, gave salam, and kissed his hands. He then proceeded to mention his sorrowful story in tears. He informed the imam that he forgot the entire Quran due to committing a sin.
The imam was a man of saintly miracles, and through his prayers, the man was able to remember the Quran again.
The imam asked him, “Who told you about me?”
