Awe-inspiring knowledge and the light of worship

Dear Islamic brothers! Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه was a major scholar, an ascetic, exceedingly pious, and a devout worshipper. The grandeur of sacred knowledge and the light of worship would shine from his face, such that even those who had not previously seen him would recognise him. A stranger once came to Basra to meet the saint, and asked where he was. Someone said, “Go to the masjid! When you see a person the likes of whom you have never seen before, that is Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣrī.”[5]
