When water gushed to the surface
Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه once set off for hajj in a group. On the way, some of them began feeling very thirsty, so they searched for a well. They eventually found one but it had no rope or bucket, leading them to becoming worried about how they were going to take the water out.
This was all mentioned to Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه. He said, “Make sure to drink water when I offer salah.” As soon as he stood for prayer, the water in the well began to bubble up by itself and people drank until their thirst was quenched.
One person precautionarily filled up a container with water. Due to this, the water stopped gushing to the surface and went back to its previous low level. Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه exclaimed, “This happened because of you not placing your trust in Allah.”
The hajj caravan took off once again. During the journey, Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه found some dates and gave them to others. When they ate them, they found the pits inside were made of gold.
The people sold these golden pits, bought food and drank with the earnings, and even gave some of it away as charity.[1]
