The excellences of fearing Allah

Ḥajjāj b. Dīnār رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه states:

Ḥakam b. Ḥajl and Ibn Sīrīn رَحِمَهُمَا الـلّٰـهُ تَـعَالٰی were very good friends. When the latter passed away, Ḥakam was distraught.  

One day, after recovering from this loss, he said, “I had a dream in which I saw my brother Ibn Sīrīn رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْهِمَا. He appeared in fantastic condition, and that too in a palace. I asked, “My brother, seeing you like this has brought me great joy. But tell me, what happened with Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه?” He replied, “He was granted superiority over me by 90 ranks.” When I asked the reason for this, he explained, “He was granted this due to always being in a state of grief (out of concern for the Hereafter).”^[1]

May Allah shower His infinite mercy upon Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه. For the sake of this great saint, may Allah Almighty grant us ability to fear Him! May He grant us ability to work for the Hereafter, and passion to gain Paradise and avoid Hell!

If only we did not long for the world, but longed for Madinah instead!

اٰمِيۡن بِجَاهِ خَاتَمِ النَّبِیّٖن  صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم
