Inform me of what you prepared for me
Sayyidunā ꜤAbdullāh b. ꜤUbayd رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ relates:
It has reached me that the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “When the deceased is placed in his grave, he sits up, and he hears the footsteps of those who accompanied his funeral. First, his grave addresses him and says, ‘O son of Adam! Woe to you! Were you not warned about me, my constriction, stench, terror, and insects? This is what I have prepared for today, so tell me what have you prepared for me?’”[2]
Sayyidunā ꜤAbdullāh b. ꜤAbbās رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا relates that the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said:
Prepare for your graves, for indeed the grave calls out seven times a day, “O weak man! Have mercy on yourself during your life before you meet me; will you have mercy upon yourself when you are decaying in me?”[3]
Sayyidunā Sufyān al-Thawrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه states, “Whoever remembers the grave often will find it to be a garden from the gardens of Paradise, and the one who is heedless of it will find it to be a pit from the pits of Hell.”[4]
