Graves remind us of the hereafter

Dear Islamic brothers, we have heard how the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم went to al-Baqi on the Night of Salvation. Al-Baqi is the graveyard of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. It is evident that visiting the graveyard on this night is a practice of the Prophet It has been the practice of the Muslims for centuries to visit the graveyard on the Night of Salvation and make duaˈ for the forgiveness of their relatives and other deceased Muslims.

May Allah Almighty grant us the ability to do this too. Visiting the graveyard on the Night of Salvation or any other time is very beneficial. Our Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated: “Visit the graves, for indeed they cause you to lose interest in this world and remind you of the Hereafter.”[1]

Seven admonitory Quranic verses

In Juzˈ 30, Sūrah ꜤAbasa, verses 17-23, Allah Almighty states:

May (the disbelieving) man be destroyed; how ungrateful he is. From what did He create him? From a drop of liquid. He created him and then set various measures for him. Then eased the way for him. Then gave him death, then had him put in the grave. Then, when He willed, He resurrected him. Never! He (i.e. the disbeliever) has not yet completed what he was commanded (i.e. the acceptance of faith).[2]
