*    When going to visit graves, do not engage in useless speech on the way.

*    It is forbidden to perform sajdat al-taꜤẓīm (prostration of reverence) before a grave, and if it is with the intention of worship, it is disbelief.

*    One should use the old path in the graveyard where there have never been Muslim graves at any point. One should not traverse a new path. It is mentioned in Radd al-Muḥtār, “It is forbidden to walk upon the new path that is made (by digging up the graves in a graveyard).”

*    In fact, even if one thinks a path may be new, it is impermissible and a sin to walk upon it.

*    It has been observed at the resting places of many saints رَحِمَهُمُ الـلّٰـهُ   that the graves of Muslims are demolished to make a floor for the benefit of visitors. Lying down, walking, standing, reciting the noble Quran, reciting litanies or sitting upon such floors is forbidden. If this is the case, one should recite al-Fātiḥah from afar.

*    Agarwood should not be lit upon graves as this is bad etiquette and an ill omen (and the deceased is harmed by this). If it is placed for the purpose of providing a pleasant scent for visitors, it should be placed in an empty place near the grave, if available, as providing a pleasant scent is desirable.

*    The following four days are preferable for visiting graves: Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It is better to visit after
