Advice from the farewell sermon

Dear Islamic brothers! The Greatest and Final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم delivered 3 farewell sermons during the Ḥajjat al-Widāʿ; one at ꜤArafah and two in Minā. In these sermons, he صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم summarised Islamic teachings, and through the Companions عَلَیْہِمُ الرِّضْوَان, he صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم issued guidance for the entire ummah. Let us listen to just one piece of advice from these amazing public addresses.

Honour other Muslims

The Greatest and Final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم delivered a sermon in Minā, during which he صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم addressed the Companions عَلَیْہِمُ الرِّضْوَان and asked, اَیُّ شَہْرٍ ہٰذَا – “Which month is this?”

It was clear that as ḥajj was taking place, it was the month of Dhū al-Ḥijjah, but look at the etiquette, manners, and decorum of the Companions رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهُم. They thought perhaps the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was intending to change the name of the month, so they replied, اَللہُ وَرَسُوْلُہٗ اَعْلَم – “Allah and His Messenger know better.”

The Greatest and Final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم then asked, اَلَیْسَ ذُوالْحِجَّۃِ – “Is it not the month of Dhū al-Ḥijjah?” The Companions رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهُم replied by saying yes. He صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم further inquired, اَیُّ بَلَدٍ ہٰذَا – “Which city is this?”

The answer to this was also clear, as it is in the city of Makkah al-Mukarramah that ḥajj is performed, but the Companions رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهُم respectfully replied, اَللہُ وَرَسُوْلُہٗ اَعْلَم – “Allah and His Messenger know better.”

The Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم asked, اَلَیْسَ الْبَلَدَۃَ – “Is this not Al-Baladah?” (This is another name for Makkah) They all again replied by saying yes.

The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم asked, اَیُّ یَوْمٍ ہٰذَا – “What day is this?”
