Book Name:Hajj e Wida Ke Iman Afroz Waqiaat

May my mother and father be sacrificed upon you! This is a time in which you do not usually smile. What has made you smile? May Allah keep smiling always.

The Greatest Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم replied, “When Satan found out Allah Almighty has forgiven my entire ummah, he placed dirt on his head, began wailing, and ran away. Seeing his agitation has made me smile.”[1]

An explanation of this blessed hadith

Mufti Aḥmad Yār Khān NaꜤīmī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه interprets this blessed hadith by saying:

The apparent meaning of the ummah here refers to all those who will perform ḥajj until the Day of Judgement. In this case, the meaning of this Prophetic dua will become, “O Allah! Whoever from my ummah who comes to perform ḥajj, may they be completely forgiven and may none of their sins remain.” Allah Almighty accepted this dua and gave the glad tidings of forgiveness to those who perform ḥajj.

It should be kept in mind that the reward of an accepted ḥajj is forgiveness of sins, and an accepted ḥajj is one in which a person performs all his salah, etc. This hadith is not saying a person can abandon salah all his life, drink alcohol, engage in fornication, but is then forgiven for everything by performing ḥajj. Rather, one must sincerely repent from all these sins and never approach them again. اِنْ شَــآءَالـلّٰـه He will then be forgiven for his previous mistakes.[2]
