his sacrifice, and returned to his place of stay. He صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم then called for a barber and had his blessed head shaved, starting from the right side. He صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم gave this sacred hair to Abu Talḥa al-Ansārī رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ. He صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم proceeded to have the hair on the left side cut, granted this to the same Companion رَضِىَ اللهُ عَـنْهُ, and then declared, “Distribute all this hair amongst the people.”[1]

Why was the blessed hair distributed?

Shaykh Zurqānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه mentions:

The Greatest and Final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم distributed his blessed hair to the Companions عَلَیْہِمُ الرِّضْوَان as a source of blessings and something to remember him by. It was also as though he صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم indicated towards his nearing departure by doing this.[2]

Encouragement to take blessings

Dear Islamic brothers! The Greatest and Final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم distributed his blessed hair, which teaches us that he himself loved for his ummah to preserve his blessed belongings and relics and to take blessings from them. This is why he صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم gave them to his Companions عَلَیْہِمُ الرِّضْوَان.

اَلْـحَمْـدُ لـِلّٰـه The noble Companions عَلَیْہِمُ الرِّضْوَان greatly valued these sacred relics, kept them safe, continued to seek blessings from them, and passed them on to the next generation. They continued to be passed down, and اَلْـحَمْـدُ لـِلّٰـه there are many devotees who have the privilege of having them today.
