صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
O those who love Allah’s Messenger! One excellence from the many excellences of our Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم is that he has many sacred names. In the sīra book Mawāhib al-Ladunniyyah, 800 of them are mentioned.
Imām Aḥmad Razā Khān رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه said, “When I began researching, I found 1400 names.” He later mentioned, “(These are the ones I am aware of. Otherwise:) It is not possible to count all the blessed names.”[1]
Different names in different cases
As our Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم is a prophet for all of creation, his blessed names are renowned among each form of creation and in every place. The TābiꜤī, KaꜤb al-Aḥbār رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ said:
Amongst the people of Paradise, his name is ꜤAbd al-Karīm. Amongst the people of Hell, it is ꜤAbd al-Jabbār. To those residing by the ꜤArsh, it is ꜤAbd al-Hamīd. To the angels he is ꜤAbd al-Majīd, whilst the prophets عَـلَـيْـهِمُ الـصَّلٰوةُ وَالـسَّـلَام know him as ꜤAbd al-Wahhāb.
Jinn refer to him as ꜤAbd al-Raḥīm. Mountains call him ꜤAbd al-Khāliq. His name on land is ꜤAbd al-Qādir and ꜤAbd al-Muhaymin in the seas.
Fish mention him as ꜤAbd al-Quddūs. Wild animals call him ꜤAbd al-Razzāq. Devils refer to him as ꜤAbd al-Qahhār. Predatory animals call him ꜤAbd al-Salām. Quadrupeds (like cows, goats,
