and now this is their state (i.e. they were conquered and disgraced).”[1]

Honour is only acquired through obeying Allah

Dear Islamic brothers, we learn that respect and honour are only gained by obeying Allah Almighty. Those who disobey Allah Almighty will be disgraced and humiliated. The Mother of the Believers, Sayyidatunā ꜤĀˈishah al-Siddīqah رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْہا once wrote a letter to Sayyidunā MuꜤāwiyah رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ. It said: “Without a doubt, from the punishment for the one who disobeys Allah Almighty is that those who praised him will begin to speak ill of him instead.”[2]

Sinning weakens the body

Sayyidunā Imam al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states, “When an individual performs a good deed, it becomes a light for him in his heart and strengthens his body. When someone sins, it darkens his heart and weakens his body.”[3]

Disobedience brings calamities and disasters

Allah Almighty states in the Quran:

ظَہَرَ الۡفَسَادُ فِی الۡبَرِّ وَ الۡبَحۡرِ بِمَا کَسَبَتۡ اَیۡدِی  النَّاسِ  لِیُذِیۡقَہُمۡ بَعۡضَ الَّذِیۡ عَمِلُوۡا  لَعَلَّہُمۡ یَرۡجِعُوۡنَ (۴۱)

Translation from Kanz al-Īmān: “Turmoil appeared in the land and the sea because of the evil deeds which people's hands have earned, so that they taste the flavour of some of their (evil) deeds; perhaps they abstain.”[4]
