and pigs like the previous nations. But remember, ultimately, there are consequences for disobeying Allah Almighty.

The scholars state:

The previous nations were punished for their disobedience in many ways. Some were swallowed by the earth, some had their faces disfigured and others were turned into monkeys and pigs. However, the punishment for this ummah is a spiritual punishment. The previous nations were punished physically, whereas this nation is punished through the state of their heart.^[1] It is stated in the Quran:

وَ نُقَلِّبُ اَفۡـِٕدَتَہُمۡ وَ اَبۡصَارَہُمۡ

Translation from Kanz al-Īmān: “And we turn their hearts and their eyes away (from the truth).”^[2]

We seek refuge in Allah Almighty! It is a terrifying matter. Sinning and disobeying Allah Almighty and His Messenger صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم causes the heart to change.

Three signs of a ruined heart

Mufti Aḥmad Yār Khān NꜤaīmī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states regarding this verse: There are three signs of a corrupt heart:

1.   Feeling no pleasure in obeying Allah Almighty.

2.   Not fearing sins.

3.   Not taking admonition from the death of people.^[3]
