The remaining Sunnahs and etiquettes of itikāf

It is not a condition for the itikāf to be in a Jāmi masjid, it can also take place in a masjid-e-jamāāt, which is one where there is an appointed imam and muˈadhdhin, even if the congregations for the five daily prayers do not take place in it. [1]

Itikāf is most superior in al-Masjid al-Ḥarām, then al-Masjid al-Nabawī عَلٰی صَاحِبِھَا الصَّلاۃُ وَ السَّلام, followed by al-Masjid al-Aqā and then, wherever the congregation is largest. [2]

Whichever pious deeds one is unable to undertake due to itikāf, such as visiting the graveyard, meeting other Muslims, visiting the ill and attending funeral prayers, one will receive the reward of them just as the one who performs them. [3]

Islamic sisters should perform itikāf in masjid bayt, which is a place that a woman specifies in her home for offering prayer. [4]

During itikāf, one is permitted to leave the masjid for two reasons: 1. needs sanctioned by Islamic law, such as offering Friday congregational prayer and 2. physical needs. [5]
