Book Name:Shair e Khuda Ka Zuhad

سُبْحٰنَ اللہ If only we are granted abstinence and piety for the sake of Sayyidunā Alī رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ, love for the world leaves our hearts, and instead of chasing worldly luxury and pleasure we become seekers of the Hereafter.

اٰمِیْنْ بِجَاہِ خاتَمِ النَّبِیّٖن صلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْہ ِوَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ 

Encouragement to adopt abstinence

Sayyidunā Nawf al-Bikālī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه relates:

I saw Sayyidunā Alī b. Abī ālib رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ go out, look at the sky and say, “O Nawf! Are you asleep or awake?”

I replied, “O Leader of the believers! I am awake.”

He responded, “Glad tidings for the abstinent, those who covet the Hereafter. They are a people who have taken the earth as a spread, the soil as a bed, its water as perfume and the Quran and supplication as their coverings. They have abandoned the world in the way of al-Masī [Sayyidunā Īsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم].[1]

Benefits of asceticism

Sayyidunā Alī رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ relates that the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated:

Whoever is abstinent from the world, Allah Almighty teaches him knowledge without him learning [from creation], guides him without guidance [from other than Allah], grants him inner sight,
