was unable to stand or walk. Sayyidunā ‘Abdullah b. Unays رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ could not bear the shock of the Prophet’s apparent passing, and his heart failed. Sayyidunā ꜤUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ lost his senses and unsheathed his sword in the streets of Madinah saying, “Whoever says the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has passed away, I will cut off his head.”[1] The level of anguish felt by Sayyidah Fāṭimah رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهَا cannot be explained in words. After the apparent passing of her father, she often recited this couplet:
صُبَّتْ عَلَيَّ مَصَائِبٌ لَوْ أَنَّهَا صُبَّتْ عَلَى الأَيَّامِ عُدْنَ لَيَالِيَا
A calamity has struck me that if it befell the days, daylight would turn into the darkness of night due to grief.[2]
Sayyidunā ꜤAbdullāh b. Zayd رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was working in a field and recited this supplication when he learnt of the beloved Prophet’s apparent passing, “O Allah! Remove my vision because I do not want to look at anyone else after the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم.”[3]
Allah Almighty granted the noble Companions رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهُم strength, and Sayyidunā Abū Bakr رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ delivered a sermon after which everyone returned to their senses. Then, preparations were made for the beloved Prophet’s funeral.
The noble Prophets عَـلَـيْهِمُ السَّلَام taste death
Dear Islamic brothers! There is no doubt the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم passed away apparently, but remember, it was only a moment of death, and then the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was granted life again.
