understand the meanings of Quranic verses or hadith.
* Prophets can see the angel bringing the waḥiyy. In contrast, saints do not see the angel delivering ilhām. They either hear a voice from the unseen or knowledge is placed directly into their hearts.
* Waḥiyy is a definitive proof in Islamic law. Ilhām, however, does not carry the same level of authority.[1]
For example, the Quran openly declares the Companions to be destined for Paradise, rendering this an absolute certainty.
In contrast, the earlier-mentioned ilhām about the salvation of those who follow Imām Abū Ḥanīfa does not mean every Ḥanafī is definitively destined for Paradise. This ilhām instead inspires strong hope in Allah’s mercy, and we remain optimistic that by His grace, those who adhere to the teachings of Imām Abū Ḥanīfa will be forgiven.
Always remember: our Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم is the final Prophet. After him, no new prophet will come, and nobody will be given the waḥiyy of prophethood.
