Fear of Allah Almighty is a means of guidance

Dear Islamic brothers! Increasing fear of Allah Almighty and the Hereafter in the hearts is from the most important goals of the noble Quran. It is also from the unique wisdom of the noble Quran that it increases fear in the hearts to bring about a positive revolution on an individual basis, across a society, and within a nation. When fear of Allah Almighty dominates the hearts, society begins to traverse the correct path by itself.

If I was a king…

There is a need to seriously understand this wisdom of the noble Quran today. It is a reality that fear of Allah Almighty rectifies a person internally. Sayyidunā Abū al-Jawzāʾ رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه would say, “If I become a king, I will construct large minarets and place a person on top of each one. I would assign them with the task of always repeating this, ‘O people, Hell! O people, Hell! O people, Hell!’”[1]

It was as though Sayyidunā Abū al-Jawzāʾ رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه understood if fear of Hell was created in the hearts of people, then not only one person, but an entire nation can become travellers of the right path.

If we just reflect on ourselves for a moment and think about how many times we have been shaken by even the smallest amount of fear, leading us to leave sins and take up the righteous path. Ponder! Do we not utter the testimony of faith when seeing a funeral bier? When an earthquake strikes, do people not leave their sins and begin reciting the testimony of faith?

If we happen to see a grave in our dreams, or see a terrifying scene pertaining to the grave or Day of Judgement, that image remains in our minds for many days. Whether we tell somebody else about this dream
