The dates of Medina

The great hadith scholar of Pakistan, Mawlana Sardār Aḥmad Chishtī    رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه deeply loved the city of Medina. The sacred city was frequently mentioned in his gatherings. If he met somebody returning from Medina, he would ask them about the city’s state and inquire regarding those who lived there. If anybody gave him something from Medina, he would accept it wholeheartedly.

A hajj pilgrim returned from the sacred lands and brought dates for the shaykh. At the time, the shaykh was teaching hadith. He distributed the dates amongst the class and bit into one himself, upon which he said, “Faith will continue to enhance for as long as the dates of Medina soften and go inside.”[1]

سُـبْحٰـنَ الـلّٰــه  These are the blessings of Medina, the city which enhances the faith of Muslims. As for those who love this city deeply, their faith is enhanced by simply hearing its name, seeing things related to it, or eating its dates even when in their own respective cities. When they finally reach Medina, who can imagine the sublime state of their faith!

(7) The city of cure

Dear Islamic brothers, Medina not only cleanses one spiritually, but it even cures physical ailments. One of the beautiful names of this city is Al-Shāfiyah: the city of cure.

The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, غُبَارُ الْمَدِیْنَۃِ شِفَاءٌ, “The dust of Medina is a means for cure.”[2]
