The Virtues of Fearing the Day of Judgement
1) The Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “On the Day of Judgement, all eyes except three shall shed tears. One shall be the eyes that wept in fear of Allah.”[1]
2) Anas رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ narrates that the final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم once recited this verse:
وَّ قُوْدُھَا النَّاسُ وَ الْحِجَارَۃُ
whose fuel is humans and stones[2]
The Prophet then صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said:
The Fire of Hell was stoked for a thousand years until it became red. It was then stoked for another thousand before turning white. Stoked for yet another thousand years, it darkened. Now, it is completely dark and shall never be extinguished.
Hearing this, a man from Abyssinia began to cry. Angel Jibrīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم then descended and asked, "Who is this?"
The Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم replied: "He is a man from Abyssinia, and you have regard for the way he cries."
Angel Jibrīl then said, "Allah declares: 'By My honour and majesty! Whoever weeps out of My fear in the world; I shall surely make him laugh in Paradise.'”[3]
3) The Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated, "When a believer’s heart trembles in fear of Allah, his sins fall away just as dry leaves do from a tree."
