tears? Do we shiver out of fear of standing before Allah on the Day of Judgement?
If our hearts remain unaffected and we do not develop a greater fear of the Hereafter, then this is a serious shortcoming.
If we are failing to achieve this, then we must deeply reflect—why is it that even through the recitation of the Quran, our hearts are not turning towards Allah in fear and humility?
When we look at the lives of our pious predecessors, esteemed elders, and righteous servants of Allah, we find they would weep profusely while reciting the Quran. The fear of Allah would make them tremble. If only we too are granted a portion of their piety.
The Prophet’s deep connection with the Quran
Once, the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم heard a person reciting the Quran.
The reciter reached the following verses:
اِنَّ لَدَیْنَاۤ اَنْکَالًا وَّ جَحِیْمًا (ۙ۱۲) وَّ طَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّۃٍ وَّ عَذَابًا اَلِیْمًا (٭۱۳)
We have heavy fetters and a Blazing Fire, and food that chokes and painful punishment.[1]
The Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم then became overwhelmed by his steep fear and awe of Allah, fell unconscious, and descended to the ground.[2]
Dear Islamic brothers! Reflect upon this! This is our Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم we are speaking about. His status is such:
