The revelation of Surat al-Qadr

It is mentioned in Tafsīr ꜤAzīzī that our Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم once reflected upon the previous nations and their long lifespans. Observing the comparatively shorter lifespans of his own Ummah, he became filled with compassion. Even if his followers devoted their entire lives to performing good deeds, they would still not be able to match the amount performed by previous nations. Upon this, he was immensely saddened.

As soon as the sacred heart of the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was filled with sadness, Allah Almighty’s mercy surged forth. To console His beloved, Allah bestowed upon him the gift of Laylat al-Qadr.^[1]

اِنَّاۤ اَنْزَلْنٰہُ  فِیْ  لَیْلَۃِ  الْقَدْرِ ۚ(ۖ۱) وَ مَاۤ  اَدْرٰىکَ مَا لَیْلَۃُ  الْقَدْرِ ؕ(۲) لَیْلَۃُ  الْقَدْرِ ۬ۙ خَیْرٌ  مِّنْ  اَلْفِ شَہْرٍ ؕ(ؔ۳) تَنَزَّلُ الْمَلٰٓئِکَۃُ وَ الرُّوْحُ  فِیْہَا بِاِذْنِ رَبِّہِمْ ۚ مِنْ  کُلِّ  اَمْرٍ ۙ(ۛ۴) سَلٰمٌ ۟ۛ ھِیَ حَتّٰی مَطْلَعِ  الْفَجْرِ (۵)

Indeed, We revealed it (the Quran) on the Night of Honour. And what do you know of the Night of Honour? The Night of Honour is better than a thousand months. The angels and the sacred Spirit (Jibrīl) descend in it with the command of their Lord, for every matter. It is peace until the rise of dawn.^[2]

سُـبْحٰـنَ الـلّٰــه What unimaginable rank does our Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم hold! When he became concerned for his Ummah, Allah granted them Laylat al-Qadr out of His mercy, to console the heart of His beloved.

A unique distinction of the Prophet’s Ummah

Allah, out of His mercy and to honour His Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم; He bestowed the precious gift of Laylat al-Qadr upon this Ummah. This
