Prayer – a recollection of the Mirāj

Dear Islamic brothers! Not only is prayer a gift from the MiꜤrāj and a MiꜤrāj for the believers, it is also filled with recollection of the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and his miraculous journey on that blissful night.

Scholars of Islam write:

When the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم met Allah on the Night of MiꜤrāj, he said, اَلتَّحِیَّاتُ لِلّٰہِ وَالصَّلَوٰتُ وَالطَّیِّبَاتُ “All verbal and physical acts of worship are for Allah alone.” Allah replied with, اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَیْكَ اَیُّھَا النَّبِیُّ وَ رَحْمَۃُ اﷲ ِوَبَرَکَاتُہٗ “O Prophet, peace be upon you, as well as the mercy and blessings of Allah.”

The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم then said, اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَیْنَا وَعَلیٰ عِبَادِ اﷲ ِالصَّالِحِیْنَ “May peace be upon us, and the pious people of Allah.”[1]

When the final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم returned, he taught his nation how to recite اَلتَّحِیَّات, which contained these very words we just mentioned. It is as though he said, “Your MiꜤrāj is prayer. During my MiꜤrāj, I spoke with Allah. You should mention the same words of that conversation when you pray.”[2]
