The MiꜤrāj and Prayer
Dear Islamic brothers! The MiꜤrāj is a wondrous miracle, and prayer is a superior act of worship. If we stop to think, we see a profound link between the MiꜤrāj and prayer.
The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم went from Masjid al-Ḥarām to Masjid al-Aqṣā, to the heavens, to Sidrat al-Muntahā, to lā makān, and finally back to Makkah. Across this whole journey, prayer featured prominently. The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم performed prayer in around twelve places during the MiꜤrāj.
The first place of prayer: al-Madinah al-Munawwarah
The Companion Anas b. Mālik رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ narrates:
When the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم left for MiꜤrāj, Angel Jibrīl requested for him to offer prayer at a particular place. The angel then asked, “Does your honourable self know where you have offered prayer? You have done so in Ṭaybah [i.e., Madīnah]. The hijrah shall take place towards it.”
Angel Jibrīl then requested for the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم to offer Prayer at a second place. Afterwards, the angel said, “You have offered Prayer at Mount Sinai. This is where Allah honoured Mūsā by speaking with him.”
