is awwal and ākhir. It is he who shall intercede first on the Day of Judgement. It is he whose intercession shall first be accepted.”[1]
We also have a narration from Sayyidunā Jābir b. ꜤAbdullāh رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ, in which it is said Prophet Ādam عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم had the following written between his shoulder blades: مُحَمَّدُ رَّسُوْلُ اللہِ خَاتَمُ النَّبِیّٖن “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah and last of all Prophets.”[2]
As conveyed by Sayyidunā Abū Hurayrah رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ, the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said:
Ādam عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام came down in India. When he felt solitude, Jibrīl then came and called the azan. Upon reaching اَشْہَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمّدًا رَّسُوْلُ اللہ, Ādam asked, مَنْ مُحَمَّد - “Who is Muhammad?” Jibrīl replied, اٰخَرُ وَلَدِکَ مِنَ الْاَنْبِیَاء - “He is the last Prophet from your offspring.”[3]
Prophet Ibrāhīm عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم and Finality of Prophethood
As narrated in al-Ṭabaqāt al-Kubrā, the following was written in the divine scriptures revealed to Prophet Ibrāhīm عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم, “Your children will comprise of many tribes. This will go on until the divinely taught Prophet arrives, اَلَّذِیْ یَکُوْنُ خَاتَمُ الْاَنْبِیَاءِ (who shall be the last of all Prophets).”[4]
